Admission to the band has always been based on interest and dedication, not audition. Our musicians are of various ages and from all walks of life. Rehearsals are held on Monday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the fellowship hall at Fries Memorial Moravian Church, 251 N. Hawthorne Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
The band's Principal Conductor has full discretion to determine the placement of members within the band, including whether any member is sufficiently prepared for, and therefore permitted to play in, any specific performance. Although there are no auditions, each band member is expected to play at or above the skill level typically found in high school or college bands. The membership of any person may be revoked by the Principal Conductor for chronic absenteeism, or by the Board of Directors for any good cause.
We rehearse and perform throughout the year. Concerts are typically held on Sundays. Rehearsals are normally on Monday nights as noted above, but we usually don't rehearse if we've just played a concert the previous day. We occasionally also take other breaks from rehearsal around Holy Week, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and much of December.
If you're interested in joining the band, come to a rehearsal with your wind or percussion instrument and introduce yourself. If you want to play with us on a regular basis, seek out the WSCB secretary to be added to the membership roster.
Keep the Music Playing!
A community band needs players, sponsors, and people like you. No donation is too small.
